June 2010
Dear Church Family,

habitat2010a.jpg, 1.4MBAs spring time turns to summer the weather gets warmer, and the seeds we planted last month have sprouted and begin to make our gardens look pretty as flowers bloom! One of the challenges is that if your garden is like mine—there always seems to be too many weeds. The challenge of weeding just doesn’t go away. As I work in certain areas of my yard I’ve noticed that weeds are not as frequent, but they are still there. In a similar way until Jesus comes again we will experience the problem of weeds—sin—in our lives. But when we let Jesus be our master gardener we can be assured that despite our sinful condition that Jesus has the power to transform us into something beautiful, too.

habitat2010b.jpg, 1.4MBAs usual May was a busy month for our church family. Highlights included at least 15 church members who worked on a Habitat for Humanity build. One of the young ladies who was going to live in one of the three homes was there working right alongside us. In addition to that we had a number of youth events: the Adventurer Fun Day in Loveland, the Pathfinders attended the Pathfinder Fair in Canon City, and both clubs together had their investiture where the kids received received their honors. As a church family I am particularly grateful for Harold Oldham who removed the trees and bushes on the south side of the church, and for the many additional church members who pitched in for the church spring cleaning bee. One real blessing was a gentleman who was washing his tow truck across the street who came over and used his rig to pull a particularly difficult stump out. As a bit of appreciation the church sent the gentleman a note along with a gift card for his generous help.

pathfinders2010.jpg, 1.2MBDuring May we also had a lot go on with our school: Karley Miller and Chad Nichols graduated from the 8th grade. The previous week we also received wonderful news that Michelle Caviness (pictured below with her daughter) has accepted the teaching position here at our church school. I’m particularly thankful that our school board chair, Carlton Mason, Jr., has announced an initiative to do a facelife on our school. So far he has raised $2,000 of the $5,000 he needs to accomplish this goal. The Caviness family will be here over the Memorial Day weekend and on Sunday morning, May 30, at 9 am there will be a special pancake breakfast for parents and church members to have an opportunity to meet our new teacher and her family.

caviness.jpg, 793kBPlease make sure that you do not miss out on our special Western Slope Camp Meeting that runs from Thursday evening, June 3rd through Saturday evening June 5th. There will be children’s programs including a special youth speaker, Andrea Moskala Jacobsen, and the Adventist Book Center will have displays of books and vegetarian foods. From Thursday evening through Sabbath morning the adults will meet at the Montrose Pavillion, and then Sabbath afternoon/evening we will meet at the Montrose Church (where all of the children’s programs are going to be).

Then on June 12 and 19 Pastor Campbell will be the featured speaker; and then on June 26 we will listen to Elder Jan Paulsen address the world church (via satellite) for our church service as our world church meets in General Conference session in Atlanta, Georgia. During that time Pastor Campbell will be gone to assist with the production of the General Conference Bulletin.

May God richly bless you this Spring is my prayer.

In Christ,
Michael W. Campbell
Pastor
